PRESS RELEASE
NIKOS LAGOS “Toy, Toy, Toy” Opening: Thursday 10 February 2011, 8 pm. Zoumboulakis Galleries, 20 Kolonaki Square.
Nikos Lagos presents his solo exhibition “Toy, Toy, Toy” at Zoumboulakis Galleries. The identity quest inside a complex urban tissue, childhood memories, adult fears, but most of all the artist’s inner need for freedom are expressed in Nikos Lago’s work, through an intensively innocent way. In his work the architectural order sense is consciously deconstructed. Small and large scale works, mixed media on canvas compose a colorful net. The artist is attracted, as most members of his generation, by Pop Art, Street Art, graffiti, Jean-Michel Basquiat and A. R. Penk. In his works symbolic words are muddled, creating thus linguistic games that are combined with images of an intensely childhoodish world. This is precisely his way to express the contradictions of his era and the anxieties which result from the creative quest of his own equilibrium: raw and violently realistic, chaotic but utopian and innocent as well Nikos Lago’s world rises.
Exhibition duration: 10 February to 12 March 2011 Opening Hours: Tuesday-Friday 11.00-15.00 & 17.00–21.00 Saturday 11.00–14.00 Sunday & Monday closed |
